Every Smile Counts

Mission Statement

  • Every three minutes, a child is born with cleft lip

  • 1 in 10 children with cleft palate will die before they turn one

  • Operation Smile provides over 200,000 free surgeries in more than 30 countries

Operation Smile is a nonprofit organization founded in 1982 with a cause to aid children in third world countries suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate deformities. Those with these conditions have difficulty with the simplest of actions we take for granted, such as eating, drinking, and speaking. In addition to administering medical attention, Operation Smile sends over speech therapists and psychosocial care providers to assist with post-op needs and patient and family attention.

Here at the University of Washington, our chapter aims to raise both funds and awareness to support this amazing cause. A few of our events include general meetings, restaurant fundraisers, 5k marathons, talent shows, professional panels, and more. Join us to learn more about our organization and how you can be a part of the change!
